2011 Pinot Noir
Background:
The 2011 Hunky Dory Pinot Noir is predominately sourced from the Srawlodge vineyard running off the West Coast Road inthe upper Wairu valleys area of Marlborough. The grape vines grow in a mixture of glacial outwash – soils exhibiting a mix of clay and stony gravels.
Winemaking:
A sunny and warm growing season ripened the grapes and these were hand-picked. The grapes were de-stemmed to tank for fermentation. The wine is racked and the grape skins are pressed and after settling spend 9 months in French oak barrels before being blended and bottled.
Tasting Note:
The bouquet is expressed with dark plum and cherry, spice and some vanilla. The palate has rich dark cherry and berryfruit flavours with some savoury and spice notes. The vanilla pod from the French oak melds well with the grape tannins and the wine is very drinkable.
Food Matches:
Hunky Dory Pinot Noir is delicious with lamb, beef, duck confit and anything to do with porcini mushrooms.
